ALVIN – Mrs. Joyce Lynn (Axelson) Pearce passed from this life Sunday afternoon, May 26, 2024, in Houston.

Born January 19, 1946, in Galveston, Mrs. Pearce had been a resident of Alvin for 11 years, previously of Pearland. Joyce was a vibrant member of the Alvin Senior Center, she was known for her warmth, kindness, and active participation in community events and she delighted in the challenge and satisfaction of completing intricate jigsaw puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruvel (Dickson) Axelson, Sr.; brother, William Edward Axelson, Jr.; sisters, Gloria Shaw, Opal Kimling, Carroll Hartley.

Survivors include her loving husband of almost 16 years, Johnny Robert Pearce; son, Gerald T. Wythe of Sugar Land; daughter, Dena Galletti and husband, Patrick of Sugar Land; step-son, John Pearce and fiancé, Malissa of Friendswood; step-daughter, Amy Montenegro and husband, Aldo of Pearland; sister, Wanda Cotton of Hitchcock; 9 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Jim Daniel officiating.

And my favorite :

Joyce Pearce and Chrysti Love, Snyder State Meet 2017

Joyce won the grand prize for the drawing. I had created this fleece blanket with photos of the 40 state meet patches. She said the sweetest words to me “ I don’t think the picture will be big enough to hold my smile!”

Our condolences to Johnny, her friends and family.

Central Texas Meet May 16-18, 2024 2024

Central Texas Meet May 16-18, 2024

Twig Branch, Tommy Goode, Frank Turbeville, Ted Grisham, Don Paige, Don Henry, Jerry Krenek, and Richard Kesselus

We had a light turnout  probably due to the short notice and the weather report.  Thursday was a little wet as the storm blew past and we watched from cover the trees bent and the rain came down in sheets.  Unlike most areas from central Texas through Southeast Texas we did not suffer any damage. Thursday evening we had a Dutch Treat meal at  El Nuevo Mexico restraint . Friday’s ride was a short 40 mile trek through northeast Bastrop County to McDade Texas for fuel and back through the grass growing areas of the County Six scooters, chase vehicle and two car  completed the ride. Everyone then departed to seek a light meal in anticipation to the planned evening Fish Fry.

The evening got started about 5 PM with most likely a little lying and story telling while JJ Money and Richard got the fire going under the cooking oil. The meal was served at 7 and was reported to be eatable.  Jane Press provided some outstanding cookies and Debi Goode showed up with her now famous Strawberry Short Cake.

Saturday started out with coffee and donuts at 8 AM and the ride got underway at 9 which covered 78 Miles of southeast Bastrop County to Rockne for a rest stop and then on through Rosankey to Smithville for another rest stop before winding up in Winchester Texas at the 1913 building housing  Murphy’s Steak house.. The return route was through the old Park Road 1 between Bushehr and Bastrop State Park which is a must see and ride road in Texas. The return was uneventful and everyone loaded up for their return home.  The meet being a little light was still a success enjoyed by all.

Oklahoma Tornado Causes Cancellation of May 2024 Oklahoma State Meet

After much thought and discussion, they have decided to cancel the Oklahoma State Cushman meet. The Expo Center is being used for dropping off supplies and parking , and it will not be ready in two weeks for us to come to a meet. Also, the town of Sulphur is not ready for extra people. We are very disappointed and reluctantly made this decision, but it is too late to find an alternate location. We are looking forward to the National Meet and anxious to see everyone.

Sulphur, OK was attacked by a tornado on Saturday night, April 4.

Drone shot from storm chaser on Sunday morning, April 5.

Our sympathy to the area for their loss. May God restore their homes.
