Central Texas Meet May 16-18, 2024

We had a light turnout probably due to the short notice and the weather report. Thursday was a little wet as the storm blew past and we watched from cover the trees bent and the rain came down in sheets. Unlike most areas from central Texas through Southeast Texas we did not suffer any damage. Thursday evening we had a Dutch Treat meal at El Nuevo Mexico restraint . Friday’s ride was a short 40 mile trek through northeast Bastrop County to McDade Texas for fuel and back through the grass growing areas of the County Six scooters, chase vehicle and two car completed the ride. Everyone then departed to seek a light meal in anticipation to the planned evening Fish Fry.

The evening got started about 5 PM with most likely a little lying and story telling while JJ Money and Richard got the fire going under the cooking oil. The meal was served at 7 and was reported to be eatable. Jane Press provided some outstanding cookies and Debi Goode showed up with her now famous Strawberry Short Cake.
Saturday started out with coffee and donuts at 8 AM and the ride got underway at 9 which covered 78 Miles of southeast Bastrop County to Rockne for a rest stop and then on through Rosankey to Smithville for another rest stop before winding up in Winchester Texas at the 1913 building housing Murphy’s Steak house.. The return route was through the old Park Road 1 between Bushehr and Bastrop State Park which is a must see and ride road in Texas. The return was uneventful and everyone loaded up for their return home. The meet being a little light was still a success enjoyed by all.

Here is a list of the attendees, Tommy and Debi Goode, Frank Tuberville, Twig and Zoe Branch, Ted Grisham, Larry and Ginger Freeze, Don and Judy Henry, Johnny and Joyce Pierce, James and Jane Press, Richard and Diane Simpson, John and son Chris Allbright, Fried onion cook JJ Money and host Richard Kesselus. Special guest Geoff Connor and Bo White visited with all at the Fish Fry
Thank you to Richard and Tommy for stepping up and providing this ride. It is wonderful to see how well Richard has recovered from his knee surgery.
A special thanks to Debi Goode for her pictures and notes.

After much thought and discussion, they have decided to cancel the Oklahoma State Cushman meet. The Expo Center is being used for dropping off supplies and parking , and it will not be ready in two weeks for us to come to a meet. Also, the town of Sulphur is not ready for extra people. We are very disappointed and reluctantly made this decision, but it is too late to find an alternate location. We are looking forward to the National Meet and anxious to see everyone.
Sulphur, OK was attacked by a tornado on Saturday night, April 4.

Our sympathy to the area for their loss. May God restore their homes.

Beth Doan, long time companion of Don Paige, Abilene, has passed. She was a lively lady who came in looking for her new friends. When Don brought her into our group, we were blessed!

This is Beth Doan and Gloria Hensley sitting with Don Paige at the 2023 State Meet in Snyder. Beth had to insist on attending the Awards Banquet to “see her friends”. This brought Don into attendance so the 2023 Founder’s Award could be presented to Don by President Larry Freeze.
The joy and fun Beth brought into our lives will long be remembered.
Our condolences to Don and her family.
