From Chrysti Love:

Cecile Blount and her husband, Paul, were great folks. They joined in 1990 and by 1997 Cecile had accepted the job of State Secretary. When Paul passed in 1999, she wanted to continue as Secretary. The friends of the Cushman Club supported her through her grief and provided a purposeful diversion. Many people have  story to share. Cile loved to thank Raymond, my husband, for giving one of her grandsons a ride on his Cushman. The boy thought he would never get to ride again since his granddad had passed. Small acts of kindness that remain the best way to encourage.

Your State Secretary has so much responsibility for the continuation of the club. Jill Wadlow, Gene Sargent, Bill Mills, and Cecile Blount all served in this capacity.

In 1997, Cecile began her 17 years of serving our club. She took this seriously. By spending devoted time on membership rolls, attending meeting and keeping minutes, plus attending events, Cecile created a wonderful record of our club’s history. When I took the responsibility, I also received a pickup load of boxes – old state meet records, magazines, newsletters, patches, and the treasured 5×8 original memebership notebooks. So much history that when I began to create the history tab on the website, I just had to search through my treasures.

We will miss this lady – Cile Blount.

New Swap Meet Opportunities

Charles Montgomery, new TCC #3068 member has several events where he wants to promote the Cushman scooters. He uses 2 trucksters at these events and has been answering questions to the younger crowd about our history. He is asking for participation of sales and attendance. This is an opportunity for another swap meet in different areas. He uses the airplanes and helicopers to draw in people to the food vendors, crafts, and antiques vendors.

Big Country Swap Meet March 2019 POSTPONED

March 17, 2020

We are very sorry to have to announce that due to the City of Abilene Emergency Order restricting any event of over 250 people, the Big Country Swap Meet has been postponed.

The new date will be announced as soon as it can be determined. We certainly regret the inconvenience of having to reschedule but understand the need to limit the number of attendees from across the state in these uncertain times. Rest assured that we will provide another tremendous swapmeet when we are able to safely enjoy it together. We will still honor all reserved spaces for the new date, however, we will gladly refund any spaces that have previously been paid for if you so desire.

We truly regret that we must postpone the swap meet, but understand the unique times that we are enduring at the current time.
We will see you soon at the Big Country Swap Meet, but until then, stay safe and ‘sanitized’!
Randy Young and all the Big Country Swap Meet Staff

Hey Swap Meet Friends,
Just wanted to give you a reminder that the Big Country Swap Meet will again  be held at the Big Country Raceway (Abilene Dragstrip) on March 29-30, 2019. We will allow vendors only to get in on Thursday the 28th to get an early setup. We are already hearing from many new vendors, so it promises to be another great swapmeet.
One new addition will be that we are working with The Tailgate Team from here in Abilene who are planning to have some of their fantastic canopies available for rent. They will have 10×10 and 10×20 units available for rent. Save your trailer space for more stuff and offer your wares in shady comfort!
Also, we have had such great success with the “Car Club Package” (10 spaces for only $200!) that we will continue to offer it. If you can’t use that many spots, gather some friends to share the deal and be close so you can sell each other’s stuff while they shop!

If you want to reserve the same spaces you had last year, you can go online and pay directly or drop us an email.

We are excited to see everyone again at this year’s swapmeet!

( Note from Chrysti: this is a complimentary post since they aren’t TCC members but you never know when or where you’ll find a treasure! Randy Young sent this and his dad is Kenneth Young, former member.)
