(Private note: Raymond and I won’t be able to attend. My mother passed away on April 27 and we are attending to the details. Ethel Sanders was 100 years plus 2 months when she died. Active until a stroke disabled her and she died a week later. We considered ourselves very blessed. Chrysti Love)

The Concho Valley club hosted their annual “Ride to Eat” event April 8-11. We had 28 people who spent part of their days enjoying a great time together.

Thursday the people gathered at Harper Campground in Water Valley. Martin and Jane Stafford, Larry Rose, and Gloria Henslee came in for the day. Pete and Sharon Henderson, Gary and Betty Mathis, James and Jane Press, Don and Judy Henry, James Perry, Gene Perry, Joe and Joyce Faltinek, Ben and Gene Sargent, Tyler and Jennifer Johnson and their 2 children, Les and Carolyn,and Raymond and Chrysti Love were all thrilled to be together.

On Thursday night, 15 people enjoyed dinner together at Los Panchitos in San Angelo

On Friday morning we met at Ramos Cafe in Carlsbad for breakfast and to get ready to ride.

9 scooters were followed by the chase vehicle driven by Ben Sargent.

The scooters roamed around the Grape Creek area and back to Water Valley. After fueling, off we went over the Divide where we found bluebonnets in full bloom. Then into Sterling City for “lunch”. ( a nutritional way to save face about an ice cream stop).

Friday night Ben and Gene Sargent hosted a pot luck meal on their patio in Carlsbad . Roy and Jo Ellen Stanley joined us.

Saturday morning 7 scooters lead by James Press headed back over the Divide, through Robert Lee, and to Bronte for lunch at Rangels. There were 20 at this meal.

At Rangels we were met by more local members Nancy and Lee Bennett , Les and Carolyn Turner,and Margaret and Armando Trevino.

Pot luck was enjoyed again at the Sargent’s patio.

CARMINE RIDE March 13, 2021 by Debi Goode

James and Jane Press started off the 2021 Central Texas Cushman season by hosting a breakfast feast that included egg and chili pepper casseroles, banana bread, fruit trays and muffins, accompanied by orange juice and coffee. Individually wrapped snickerdoodle cookies were also provided. The ride left Carmine around 9:30 AM and took scenic backroads over to LaGrange where we visited the Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites. “The Kreische Brewery Overlook contains ruins of one of the earliest and largest breweries in Texas which produced German-style beers circa 1870-1884. Also on the grounds is the Burial site of Republic of Texas soldiers killed during the Dawson and Mier Expeditions.” (Information taken from the brochure provided by the Texas Historical Commission.)

After enjoying the relaxing atmosphere at the Historic Site, we rode to Reba’ Deli in LaGrange for a wonderful lunch. After lunch we took back roads to Round Top for an ice cream break, then home to Carmine. Thanks to Jim Press for providing the chase vehicle…thankfully his services were not needed to pick up any scooters! Participants included the following: James and Jane Press, Jim Press, John and Barbara Allbright, Larry and Ginger Freeze, JJ Mooney, Richard Kesselus, Ben and Gene Sargent, Tyler and Jennifer Johnson with Wyatt and Adelaide, and Tommy and Debi Goode. March 12-13, 2021–15th Annual Carmine Ride–Carmine TX. Come join us in Carmine, Texas (about 20 miles west of Brenham on US 290) this spring! Here’s what we have planned. The rides start at 9:30 from the Pecan Grove Inn parking lot on both Friday and Saturday mornings, so those coming from a distance need to arrive on the 11th to make the 9:30 AM start time on the 12th. Wow what a year it has been! 2021 should begin to get us back to the normal things like SWAP MEETS! Last year we postponed our 6^th annual Big Country Swap Meet until July, but it was a great meet and went off without a hitch! We will be back on our regular “Starts the last Friday in March” schedule in 2021 for the 7^th annual meet, barring any unforeseen regulations. We are expecting an extraordinary meet this year starting March 26-27. 

Be sure to mark March 26-27 on your calendar. Vendors only can get in to set up after lunch on Thursday the 25^th to avoid the rush on Friday morning.  

Remember that we will again have the popular “Car Club Package” available- 10 spaces together for only $200! This lets you get together with your club (or even just a group of friends) to swap and sell, letting some of your group sell all your stuff while others get to shop for deals. If you have not already contacted us to renew or grab a new set of spaces, do so quickly to get the best selection of locations.
