The TCC officers meet in Wichita Falls June 27, 2020.  Dee Van Winkle hosted us at the MPEC ( Multi Purpose Event Center). There are plenty of hotels and camping sites, so read further about the plans.

We will be using Exhibit Area B of the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall. These doors are on the West side of the building. Our Texas Cushman Club banner will be hung in this area for you to easily find the State Meet.

Welcoming us was Michael Tipton, General Manager of MPEC. We will be entering through the doors behind him. To the left are the windows of the Concession Stand which will be open for your food needs early morning though lunch.

Please remember, to order your t-shirts and/or enter the 100 year ride by Sept. 23, 2020.

A group of Cushman riders FINALLY got a chance to meet, ride and eat. The Possum Kingdom ride was organized by Gene Perry. The group began their week on June 22 and left for home on June 26. There were 15 scooters and lots of riding.

Richard Kesselus and his officers have been busy making the prelimary plans for the meet. Your next newsletter (Mid-July) will have the registration form, schedule, and other information. Because the Cushman Club of America’s Meet was cancelled, our club has increased our meet to include rides and activites from Monday through Satuday.

All the meet information is on the website under the tab: “2020 38th State Meet”.

Please note: the t-shirts will be pre-order only. We will NOT have extras at the meet.

Deadline to order: Sept. 23.

As always, if you are not attending the meet, your annual membership fee still needs to be paid by Oct. 12.  You can use the same form and mail your check to Chrysti Love, 2120 County Road 24, Lamesa, TX 79331

Texas State meet October 12 – 17^th 2020 Details

Hello all From Deep in the Heart of Texas.  This will be my effort to invite you all to attend the Texas State Meet in Wichita Falls October 12 – 17, 2020

First of all, this invite is no different from any other State Meet we hold. It is just that we are making an extended effort to let all Cushman riders participate with us.  It has nothing to do with the CCOA organization.  All of the rules, Insurance and procedures are that of the Texas Cushman Club Inc.  All that is required is that you register and sign our standard waver form.  The registration fee is 25 dollars. There is no requirement to join the Texas Cushman Club but we will be glad to accept any new member applications.  The meet will begin on Monday October 12 (Columbus Day), with the registration desk opening at 10 AM Monday and 8 AM all day Tuesday and Wednesday then each morning with closing times posted for the rest of the meet.

We encourage pre-registration and will refund the registration fee upon request.  Note: We WILL NOT refund the Banquet ticket prices but will attempt to sell your tickets and if successful return that amount.  Pay attention to the registration cut off date for T-shirt purchases. If you have to cancel, we will refund the registration fee less the amount to mail your shirt.

Attached to this invite are:  1. A welcome flyer from the Wichita Falls convention center, 2. A schedule of events (subject to change), 3. I have a new computer and while moving files, I came across this scan from the CCOA magazine. Thought you might enjoy a little history that hasn’t been posted on the website before.

Gene Perry has gotten the newsletter published and some members have received their copies. He sent in to the publisher on March 20. On Saturday, May 1, I received my copy. We must assume the “Virus” got into the publisher’s business.

I have added the 2 posts that tell a little more about Richard Miner’s and Mike McLeod’s stories.  Jimmy Hubbard posted a comment on Leon Jones’s obit post that Leon was a great help to him.

As always, please send your stories and pictures to Gene if you want them in the newsletter. Each member has a reason or person of character in their history of being a Cushman scooter enthusiest. Also when you sell your classified ad item, please let him know to remove it.

Mike McLeod TCC #14

In September 2017, the Big Country Area held the West Texas Fair and Parade Event meet in Merkle, Tx.

John Hensley had been telling us about an old scooter guy in Merkle and that he had his original scooter. While camping in Mike McLeod’s Windmill RV Campground, we got to meet Mike. He brought a scan of his cap with the patch from the 1^st meet of the Texas Cushman Club from 1983. Proof of his membership was not on my current books.

Time for some detective work. On the Numerical list, I found Mike, but his membership had not been carried forward through the years. The original 5×8 notebooks are in my storeroom. Out came the boxes and there was McLeod, Mike #14. With the notation that he was given “charter bar & 10-year bar 6-5-92”. For your history lesson: In 1992 Ross Murphy was president.  Upon the 10^th year as a club, the 30 charter members who were active members were honored and given Lifetime memberships.

We have updated and gotten his membership back on the books. At the 37^th State meet in Snyder,  Mike brought more items of interest. His original title and license tag receipts. What a joy to see the value Mike places on his Cushman roots.

It has been a pleasure to have Mike back in our roster. Thanks to our late friend, John Hensley for making the connection.

At the Cushman National Meet last June 13, 2019, Richard Miner had an accident while riding his scooter at Paris, Tx. As I’ve seen many times, Cushman friends surround and support during these times. Richard had many broken bones and road rash was deep. He spent 3 days in ICU in Plano and was then moved closer to home.

At Memorial Herman, he was admitted to the level 1 trauma/burn unit. Multiple surgeries were performed to reduce the risk of infection and freshen the wounds for faster healing. On June 19, he was moved out of ICU. There were difficult times with finding pain meds that would work. Broken bones and wounds take time. On July 2, he was transferred to rehab closer to their home. Then on July 28 Richard was moved into the hospital due to low blood pressure and nausea. The bones are mending slowly, and he is weakened.

Early August he was at home with PT, OT, Speech therapists and nurses coming to help him continue to recover. They were thankful for good days and survived the bad days.

On October 6, Richard announced he wanted to come to the State Meet. He had turned a corner and was ready to see everyone.

What a joy to have them walk into the Wednesday night Early Bird dinner! On Friday, we learned more. Don Henry had picked up Richard’s scooter from the storage unit in Paris and took it home. The scooter was returned to Richard repaired and in running order. No charge for the repair.

There were so many who helped during this accident. Richard and Sue appreciated all the help.

This is what a member does – give and then give some more. What a Club!

Yes, Richard plans to ride again.
